Kehillat Ahavat Tzion is a vibrant young community in the new development town of Ramat Beit Shemesh, just north of Jerusalem. We have a unique and growing blend of Olim as well as Israeli families, from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many of our members have in fact, made Aliya in the last 24 months since the start of the Intifada. We are an extended family for so many who have left the relative comfort of Chutz La'Aretz, in particular those who have few or no relatives in Israel.

We boast a membership of over 100 families, and have created a special tight-knit atmosphere. What makes us different from other Kehillot in the area is the notion that our Beit Knesset is not just a place for Tefilla and learning, but also an important infrastructure for community support and Chesed. We possess a unique togetherness which is most evident when someone in our Kehilla is in need of help - be it in the form of Tzedaka, preparing meals, help with children, group Tehillim/Tefillot, and so on.

Our Kehilla is temporarily housed in a local kindergarten, until we complete the building a permanent purpose-built Beit Knesset. We estimate that the likely cost to build our Beit Knesset will be somewhere in the region of $500,000 - $600,000.

To this end, we have already taken many positive steps:

  • We have secured a plot of land, in a prime position, and have engaged both a Project Manager and Consultant Architect to ensure the most professional approach to the project
  • Nearing 60 families have joined the Building Fund, committing themselves to the future of the Kehilla
  • We have established many effective fundraising events and projects, one of which was our first Fundraising Dinner, which raised nearly $10,000.
  • The Fundraising Committee has so far managed to raise nearly 250,000 NIS mostly from community members alone.
  • We are starting a major new pro-active project engaging everyone in the Kehilla in fundraising

While we have sufficient funds to start preparing plans and indeed the site itself, we have a long way to go. It is our aim that over the next 12 months we will raise a further $250,000, which will mean that we can start building in earnest, and look towards completion sometime during 2004.

The building of our Beit Knesset is not a vision - it is our future; for us and our children - a center for Tefilla, learning, Chesed and togetherness. A place which will a focal point for Ahavat Yisrael, and be a beacon for other communities in the area. Together with your support, we can achieve this !

For all donations, please indicate that the proceeds should be forwarded to Kehillat Ahavat Tzion for: Chani Rosenfield. You will be issued a tax receipt and a thank you note for your kind contribution to Kehillat Ahavat Tzion.
